About the Mental Health Innovation Network

The Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN) is a community for value-exchange: sharing ideas, solving problems and raising awareness. We focus on building relationships and sparking collaborations that can make a real difference in mental health care. Together we explore opportunities, tackle barriers and co-create a path forward.

Our story

Back in 2022, we saw a gap—there was no forum for a joined-up conversation about mental health innovation. So, we set one up. Our roots go back to a panel event hosted in partnership by the following organisations: Four Points Health, Conduit Connect & MQ Mental Health Foundation - this event inspired a group of us to keep meeting and growing the conversation. Since then, connected with a higher purpose, the network has grown organically, always with a focus on connection and collaboration.

MQ Mental Health

MQ: Transforming mental health is a company registered in England and Wales (7406055) and a charity registered in England and Wales (1139916) and Scotland (SC046075).

Just to clear the air (and avoid any awkward mix-ups)

We’re yet another MHIN! While we proudly share the acronym and wholehartedly support the excellent work of our fellow Mental Health Implementation Network colleagues at NIHR and our Mental Health Innovation Network friends at mhinnovation.net, we’re a completely separate volunteer-run, non-profit initiative. Think of us as the friendly neighbourhood MHIN — same passion for mental health, different postcode. No trademark infringement intended, just good old-fashioned acronym coincidence and shared values!

How it works

We provide a forum for open, joined-up conversations about mental health innovation

Quarterly in-person meet-ups in London

Each event has a specific theme suggested by the community. Every time we gather new relationships are sparked, fresh thoughts emerge and the network grows a little more.

WhatsApp group for ongoing conversations

After attending an event, there is an invitation to join the MHIN WhatsApp Community. We value human connection first, so this invite comes after you've met us in person.

Joining a meet-up

New members join meet-ups by referral, invited by existing members who see the value they can bring. There is no strict selection criteria except that you are actively working, with passion, in mental health innovation.

Our ethos

Our few simple rules keep us true to our mission:

Active contribution

We welcome 'givers' as our focus is on sharing knowledge, experience and helping to solve problems.

No pitching - No self-promotion

We connect for the higher purpose and not for individual gain.

Non-commercial, value-exchange ethos

Everything we do is pro-bono and voluntary, ensuring that our focus stays on collaboration and collective impact, not profit.

A Note of Thanks

Each meet-up has a power-house of volunteers who make it happen. They introduce speakers, they manage the admin, they help with logistics on the day. We could not do this without your help.
Thank you.

A special word of thanks to Sophie Valentine and Jeremy Pitt for the production of all of our media assets.

Get involved

If you are actively working in mental health,
we’d love for you to join the conversation.

Help us break down barriers and bring new ideas to life.
