MHIN 10th Meetup: Beyond Treatment - Addressing Mental Health’s Broader Determinants

This milestone 10th MHIN meetup was a highly impactful event exploring societal influences on mental health beyond traditional treatment solutions. The session addressed what must change and be innovated beyond improving access and treatment options for mental health conditions.

Key highlights included Peter Fonagy’s insights on Epistemic Trust and Dr Anna Moore’s presentation on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the power of collaborative data via resources like CADRE. Dr Moore, UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Assistant Professor in Child Psychiatry at Cambridge, examined how socioeconomic inequalities, social exclusion, and early life adversities impact mental health outcomes.

The event featured a panel with Dr Ellie Kallis (Goodwith.co), Nii Lante Wallace-Davies (Ieso), Anne Pordes (London Borough of Newham), Charlotte Catignani (YMPH Charity), and Rikke Nedergaard, discussing challenges and opportunities for startups in the mental health space, particularly regarding NHS engagement and funding.

This comprehensive session helped attendees understand how technology can responsibly address the broader determinants of mental health, recognizing that effective solutions must consider environmental and societal factors beyond clinical treatment alone.
